Eco Brick Bench Making

In partnership with Lawaan Elementary School, an Eco Brick workshop was conducted to the students of the said school. This aims to teach children how to recycle and put into good use bottles and garbage that are recyclable.

Through the effort of the Team and the Local Council of Lawaan, the proposed collection scheme was approved by the Municipality. Now garbage is being collected every 15 days in the communities Material Recovery Facility.

With the help of the Barangay officials and community residents, painting of the cement type toilet bowls was made possible. Talk about Bayanihan and this is it.

General Cleaning and Inspection of the Barangay Health Station

Lawwan's Barangay Health Station needed a much deserve renovation and rehabilitation, all renovation starts from a general cleaning and inspection. Community residents voluntarily rendered their assistance in cleaning the Health Station.

Rain Water Harvesting and Safe Water Storage Lecture

Safe water water storage practices and Rain water Harvesting was also thought to the community people. These targets to address issues on safe drinking water as we teach the community on the proper way to store water, Rain water harvesting was also introduced as an alternative source of water for residents who are far away from existing barangay water faucets and spring boxes.

Eco Brick Contest

An Eco Brick making contest was also held in partnership with Lawaan Elementary School. This aims to teach the students to recycle and also aims to give the school 2 benches made of Eco Bricks. The students of the 5th grade emerged as the champion in the most number of Eco Bricks produced.

The existing MRF's in the community namely in Purok's 1, 2 and 4 have been renovated following a standard size that is needed to facilitate proper Material Recovery, these MRF's were also painted in accordance to a garbage color scheme.

Purchase and Turn-over of Toilet Molder

Barangay Lawaan realizing the need to be self reliant in Toilet Sanitation purchased 1 unit of toilet molder with the help of ADZU-SOM students. This a step ahead for the community to achieve the "Zero Open Defecation", among their constituents.

Renovation and Repainting of Barangay Health Station

Work immediately started once materials and the work force was secured in renovating and rehabilitating Lawaan's Health Station. It is our goal the the Health Station would serve it's purpose of addressing the basic health care needs of the community.

 Lecture on Composting

A waste analysis characterization study was done in the community and 56% of the waste was found out to be biodegradable, a lecture on composting was done to introduce to the community an alternative way to dispose of biodegradable waste and make use of it as a source of nourishment of the soil.

After the Eco Brick making contest, 2 Eco brick Benches was made for the use of the students of Lawaan Elementary School. As of now the school aims to promote the use of Eco Brick in any up coming construction projects they might have in the future.

Water as an essential element for life, has always been one of the focus of our teams efforts to develop and improve our beloved community, as of the moment 6 out of the 7 Puroks already have a constructed spring box. Ensuring a safer source of drinking water of the residents of Lawaan.

Fabrication of Cement Type Toilet Bowls

To address the community's Toilet Sanitation Problem, 84 cement type toilet bowls were fabricated with the help of the Ateneo de Zamboanga School of Medicine, Unilab, RHU Tampilisan, The Office of the Municipal Sanitary Inspector and the local Barangay Council of Lawaan.

With the assistance of Barangay Officials the residents needing toilet bowls were gathered andan initial 21 pieces of cement type toilet bowls were distributed to the community.

Relaunching and Opening of Lawaan's Barangay Health Station.

It was one of the teams goals to be able to rehabilitate and renovate the existing structure and also improve the health services being provided in the Health Station. A relaunching was done and it was attended by the Municipal Health Officer, Midwife, Nurse, ADZU-SOM Students, Barangay Leaders and the Community Residents, a Medical Mission was also conducted afterwards. Now the Health Station would continue to be a beacon of hope foe the community that they are not forgotten, truly it will serve it's purpose of being called a "Tabanghay".

DOH Program Promoting Maternal and Child Health through Proper Tooth Brushing

In line with the celebration of Dental Health Month and which also covers the DOH Program promoting Maternal and Child Health, a lecture on proper tooth brushing was done among the Children of Tampilisan Elementary School, the event was also graced by the  presence of our colleagues in the Dental Profession in which we aims to fight cavities one brush at a time.

A "Kontra Altapresyon Campaign" was held among the 7 puroks of Barangay Lawaan, this aims to address the concerns of Known Hypertensives in taking maintenance medicines and also aims to monitor and promote a healthy lifestyle among know hypertensive in the community.

A Hypertensive Clinic was started to known Hypertensives in the community, this aims to make a registry, and seeks to check their compliance on their anti hypertensive regimen and their progress in achieving a healthier Blood Pressure.

Seniors Weekly Exercise

A 3x a wek exercise was started among senior citizens. Since most registered Hypertensives are Senior Citizens this is a great way of involving them to stay fit and healthty.

Zumba for Health

A 3x a week Zumba is being conducted for residents in Lawaan, to help promote exercise and help prevent the start of Hypertension.

Registering of Known Hypertensives  Residents

To be able to address the Hypertension Cases among the residents of Lawaan, residents who are known hypertensives were brought to the Rural Health Unit of Tampilisan to be registered for the Municipality's Anti Hypertensive Campaign and for them to be able to get free anti hypertensive medications monthly.

Prenatal Usapan Series

The Usapan Series was also adopted in addressing the Prenatal concerns of the community. It focuses on the topics of "Usapang Buntis" and Usapang Bagong Mginoo" were in expectant mothers and men were invited by the medical students, an NPD served as a resource speaker, in which the attendees queries regarding Prenatal care was addressed.

Family Planning Usapan Series

The Usapan Series was started which focused on "Usapang Pwede Pa" were tackled this was also done in partnership with the Rural Health Unit and a NDP as resource speaker. Pregnant mothers and Expectant mothers were the ones who attended the lecture for them to be informed on the different family planning methods being made available by the department of health.
